OUR HISTORY & MISSION

Montfair, fashioned into a popular camping resort in the 1960's by the Sheridan family, became a favorite destination for many guests looking to enjoy our beautiful surroundings. We are located on the rolling, wooded foothills of what was at one time part of the Brown Family plantation known as Mount Fair. The Brown family settled in what is now known as Brown's Cove, becoming land grant owners of over 10,000 acres and were important contributors to the history of both Albemarle Co. and Virginia.

Now undergoing revitalization, we are working towards becoming a future certified eco-lodge. We take pleasure in refurbishing buildings from the 1960's, preserving the noncommercial nature of the landscape, planting native plant species and providing as many green environmental products as possible. Our goal is to be an eco-friendly, recreational resource for our local community and to guests interested in the rich, natural, and cultural heritage of Virginia. We are proud of the good works being accomplished by our local neighbors and encourage you to visit both Mount Air's Gryffon’s Aerie, Local farm tours weekdays, retail store: Sat. and Sun. from Noon to 5:00 p.m.
434.531.0994  www.gryffonsaerie.com and to see the beautiful organic vegetable, herb & flower gardens at Innisfree Village www.innisfreevillage.org/ also offering weekday tours.

Folks can hike and ride our mountain bikes on a variety of trails, fish and canoe on the lake and ponds. Enjoy bird watching and maybe even catch sight of a black bear, Blue Heron or busy beaver. Montfair is pet-friendly and a fun place to share a walk with your dog(s) in the wide-open fields and wooded trails.

Montfair offers a large rustic lodge by the lake available for conferences, family reunions, private parties, overnight campouts and educational events. Our sun-dappled lawn stretches down to the lakeshore, providing a memorable setting for company picnics and wedding receptions; there are several beautiful spots for outdoor weddings.

Montfair's cozy Cedar Cottages , overlooking our lake and the surrounding Blue Ridge, are available for vacation rentals year round.
